It's always nice to have friends with the same interests. When it comes to witchcraft, this is exactly the same. Getting to know other witches can improve your path, but how exactly? And how do you find a group of witches that suits you? Is it easy to find witches?
Our meeting
The Lunar Sisterhood would never have started if we weren't looking for other witches. The friendship that developed was great because of the similar philosophies of life that we had. We, Garcia and Keke, therefore also support beginners looking for a fun community. Yet our meeting was not all rose scents and sunbeams either.
Through TikTok we both ended up with the same group of witches. This group was very enthusiastic in the beginning and above all very busy. Through whatsapp all witches could contact each other and ask questions. Soon a group arrived where you could just talk about everyday life and not just about witchcraft. This is where we started talking and we ran into each other. The click was soon there. The problem was that there were other people in the group who brought a lot of negativity with them. This brought the group to a halt. There was too much drama and misinformation. We just kept in touch and decided to join a new group with other people who are walking similar paths. There was a lot less drama here and still makes for fun and interesting conversations every day.
Garcia’s tip
I often looked on TikTok for fun witch groups to make friends. I've also had a witch group on whatsapp, but don't do that until you're sure it feels right to give your number. And on Discord, go into each group and see what you like and what you don't. You can always go out if they don't like them. The biggest tip is that you just have to do what feels good and what makes you feel safe.
Keke’s tip
I myself started with amino groups to get in touch with other witches. This just wasn't what helped me find new and good witches friends. I also noticed that it could take a while before you really had good contact with other witches. My tip is therefore to keep looking. Don't stick with the first group you see. Sometimes there is a better group of people that suits you, but you have to find that out for yourself. Perhaps the first group is good, that is of course possible. But how do you know if you don't look further?
Social media
Social media is an effective way to connect with other witches. Not only are there websites like this one, there are other good platforms to meet people. All social media platforms have their pros and cons.
Discord
Discord is an app where you can call and chat with other people. The advantages of Discord are that it can remain accessible, because you do not necessarily have to talk in the groups and you do not have to share your full name. Many groups also have moderators who make sure people stay friendly and it stays a safe place. Discord groups are easy to find via google or via, for example, witch YouTubers who have their own Discord group. The Lunar Sisterhood also has its own Discord group which can be found at the bottom of the page. Disadvantages are that there are often calls that you may not feel comfortable with and the groups can get very large.
Facebook is an app where you can post your own posts or respond to other people. The advantage of using Facebook is that there are special groups that you can search for in the Facebook search bar. Sometimes you can even find witch groups near you by entering the name of your city. People often ask questions in the groups or share their own experiences. Disadvantages of Facebook may be that there are fewer people in your age group. It is therefore not ideal for young novice witches. The sometimes somewhat strong opinions of advanced witches who are a lot older can sometimes be a bit intimidating. Also, the chance of misinformation is high, because anyone can post whatever they want. It is also difficult to remain anonymous as Facebook often asks for a first and last name.
Instagram is an app where mainly photos and videos are posted. Its advantages are that many informative posts are placed on it. It's easy to comment under someone's post and by following hashtags, you can see the information you want. To find witches you can follow the hashtags witchcraft, witchesofinstagram or babywitches. Disadvantages are that it is difficult to have personal conversations with other witches. It takes a little more time to get in touch with someone.
TikTok
TikTok is an app where short videos are posted that can then be liked or shared. Advantages are that you can easily meet other witches. To do this, you can watch videos under a hashtag like #witchtok and if you do that long enough, more videos of witches will appear on your for you page. So it is very accessible and for people with hearing impairments there are many videos with subtitles on it. TikTok also makes it easy to find other groups in other apps like Discord. Disadvantages are that there is a lot of misinformation on TikTok and it is difficult to investigate what is correct and what is incorrect. Like Facebook, it can be difficult to find peers. TikTok mainly consists of people who are teenagers or around their twenties.
Amino
Amino is an app that is mainly made for fandoms. Yet there are now many groups on other topics such as witchcraft. Advantages are that a lot of information is given and most people are able to answer questions. The app is specially made to connect with people who have similar interests, so you know that people also connect with other witches. Disadvantages are that the groups about witchcraft are not always the same size and some groups are therefore not very active. In addition, you should pay attention to whether you are really in a witchcraft group and not a fandom of Harry Potter or the like.
Blogs
Blogs like this one are also helpful for finding witch communities. Blogs mainly provide information about witchcraft, but they also have the option to post comments. Advantages are that you don't have to go completely into a group if you are not ready. You can post comments if you have any questions about the topic of the blog. Also, many blogs and websites have links to Discord groups or other apps where you can get in touch with witches. Disadvantages are that it is difficult to find a good active blog. It is also not self-evident that all blogs have links to other apps.
